UMaine Welcomes the Harlem Superstars

Call now to get your tickets for the Harlem Superstars on April 4, 2009. Tickets are $10 at the door and $8 if you call ahead. The show will be at 7:00p.m. in the Memorial Gym. This event is being put in support of NEBAA and Alternative Spring Break.

The Harlem Superstars, like the Harlem Globetrotters, are a group of highly skilled basketball players that are trained in comedy basketball. They travel all around the world to play charity games to help benefit local communities or organizations. Usually their half time show consists of fans and audience members doing tricks in the middle of the court.

The mission of the Superstars is, ""entertain people of all ages with great classic comedy, dazzling basketball, and intermingling with the crowd." Please come out and support these UMaine organizations and the Harlem Superstars.

...

Well as you just heard ASB is having a silent auction today. This weekend ASB is holding post experience presentations. This will give other students an opportunity to see what these people do and why they do it. These presentations are being held in Nevelle 101 on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 7:00p.m.

These presentations will include slide shows of all seven trips sent out this past spring break and of last years trip to Nicaragua. This is a great opportunity for people that are on the fence about joining the Alternative Spring Break group. You will get a chance to see pictures and learn about everyone's great experiences that they had or that they have had throughout the years of volunteering.

Support Alternative Spring Break

Hello All

Today there is going to be a silent auction held to help the Alternative Spring Break Volunteers raise money for their trip in 2010. The auction is going to be held from 9:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. in the COE Room in the Memorial Union.

Some of the prizes will include, a kayak from Old Town Kayak, beautiful scarfs, a rafting trip for two, tickets to the Great Maine Lumberjack show, a cd organizer, and much more.

For those of you that don't know what alternative spring break is let me enlighten you. ASB is an organization of students and faculty that volunteer every spring break in different parts of the country to help improve a certain area in some way. A couple years ago the ASBers went to New Orleans to help re-build homes and this year they went to Utah to help fix up land there. These people help do wonderful things so everyone should go out and support this group. Again the silent auction is from 9-4 in the COE room in the Union.

Good Luck to all you ASBers!!

"THINK AHEAD BEFORE YOU GO TO BED"

I just recently read a flyer for an event that was called PJ Monday. This Monday, March 30, 2009 the Counseling Center, Campus Activities Board, Peer Ed and Safe Campus Project will be hosting PJ Monday to raise awareness about healthy relationships. This is a campus wide event and these groups encourage everyone on campus to participate. This event will be going on all day. Come to the Union at 8 and join these organizations in a friendly game of Pajama Party Trivia. You will be awarded a prize if you have the best pajamas on.

This sounds like a great idea but I'm not exactly sure if everyone will understand the significance of wearing pajamas to raise awareness of a healthy relationship. I like the title of the flyer and I think people would understand the significance of that but I don't know if just PJ Monday will do it. Hopefully they have a big turn out because there's nothing more important than forming healthy relationships with your loved ones.

Movie Night

So the other night I attended free movie night in DPC 100. I had never done it before and I decided now was the time do it. The movie that was playing was Twilight, I figured since it was free I would try it out. The movie was surprisingly interesting. After going into it with only knowing that the movie was about vampires I came out feeling satisfied from seeing a halfway decent movie. Because I didn't know really what Twilight was about I really had no expectations. The movie was kind of dark and mysterious but intriguing at the same time. I enjoyed watching Bella and Edward form a unique bond with one another. Although I was scared for Bella at times because it seemed that she got in way over her head with this family of vampires I was at ease with the way that Edward protected her every move. Overall I would say this movie is one to see. I enjoyed the free movie night and think that I will definitely attend again.

Movies for the rest of the school year have not yet been released but to find some of the movies already played and to watch for new movies visit http://www.umaine.edu/campusevents/cab/kickinflix.htm.
